Program Details

Through the CARES Workforce Training Program, Onyx Lane is able to offer training and internship programs in Session Producing, Engineering, Scoring, and Orchestration FREE OF CHARGE to Oklahoma City residents who qualify for the CARES Act Funding that is available for retraining.

If you are interested, please complete our contact form and select the Cares Workforce Training Program by December 1st containing:

  1. Which program you are interested in
  2. Which training session (session 1 Dec 9-13 or 2 Dec 16-20) are you available for
  3. A brief paragraph stating why you are interested in this program, your previous experience in music, and your current experience in recording, producing, or scoring (include which programs you use and how comfortable you are with them)
  4. If available, a resume or CV
  5. If available, examples of previous work

We are limiting this course to a maximum of 20 students, so you are encouraged to apply before December 1st since we will be working on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Students who are accepted as candidates will receive instructions on how to apply for CARES Workforce Training funding for this program.

Who is this for?

Professional and aspiring musicians who want a crash course in how to record, compose, and produce. This is a great opportunity for performing musicians who find themselves recording more often, music educators and conductors who need to record their ensembles, composers and songwriters who need to know how to prepare their music for a professional recording session, and engineers and producers who want to learn more about tracking, editing, and mixing sessions for orchestras, chamber groups, and for film and media.

When will this occur?

  • Session 1 is planned for Dec 9-13, 2020.
  • Session 2 is planned for Dec 16-20, 2020.
  • The internship portion of the program will occur in early 2021.
  • Courses will be presented in person and simultaneously over zoom for those who cannot attend in person. These lectures will also be recorded and available to all students.

Please indicate which of the two sessions (or both) you would be available for.

What do students get?

Each student will receive 5 days of specialized training from expert instructors in the fields of music producing and scoring in December 2020.

During the internship portion of program held in early 2021, each student will be part of three different professional recording opportunities held at different area studios. Students will receive hands-on experience and an opportunity to use the skills they learned during the training portion of the program in a real-world setting.

Each accepted student will also receive up to $1000 worth of recommended studio gear so that they are prepared to enter the workforce as a location and session recording producer or assistant composer. Each student will receive a personalized recommendation of what gear they should purchase based on their career goals.

Eligibility

Oklahoma City residents who have suffered a Covid-19 related financial loss (job loss or other reduction in income after March 1st, 2020)
